One of the main jobs at ChaCo this summer/autumn is building a proper roof for the workshed.
When the contractors went bust early last year they left us with a structure with just a roof and two walls. Since then we’ve found someone to build the other two walls and then created a temporary roof ourselves to keep the weather out.
Earlier this year we were awarded a £15,000 Climate Change Grant by Leeds City Council to fund an e-cargo bike, a secure metal storage shed and a small solar array and battery to charge up the bike. The only problem with this plan is that we don’t yet have a roof that will take the weight of the panels.
So – armed with drawings from our architect – we’re polishing up our joinery skills and braving blisters and splinters to get the roof built in time to fit the PV panels in the autumn.
Meanwhile the rest of us have been enjoying the ChaCo Olympics on the school playing field – and blackberry crumble.
And for anyone interested in seeing it all firsthand, our next Open Day is on 15 September – but hurry, coz there’s just 20 tickets. Click the Eventbrite link to book you place!
